Red and blue and - V, VI and VII

The magic of numbers. It is absolutely critical that a sense of wonder is given with the teaching of the quality of numbers, but that it never becomes superstition - i.e. it is always rooted in the real world. Numbers and patterns are all around us - and this ability to see it with clarity and right thought, but to respect it and love it, it the foundations of the teaching of numbers.

Four - the cardinal points on the compass, the four seasons, the four elements
The four-sided figure

We did red and blue....

Matisee eat yer heart out!

Five - the five-pointed star in the apple
I also have the hexagon - or the six pointed star - and made a link to the honeycomb (in the story there was a queen bee) and snow - they had to seek the House of Snow...

Drawings for the number five...

Then today we did number seven... and the seven-pointed star

And the kids LOVED it....

I wandered lonely as a woolly cloud
We cleaned wool yesterday and played a counting game. The wool will be used to make wool angels, as well as spinning some wool to make the threads to tie the angels together.
