The Eve of Michaelmas

Tis the eve of Michaelmas and the entire school took a trip to Ballymenoch Park to gather leaves which we will later make a dragon with. Here are some of the sights!

Week 3.... K and T.... and Yellow and Gold

Why this post flips photos i do not know... This week we covered T and K, and the B sound, but we also did other stuff ike painting and singing.

Main lesson books... T for tree from the Golden Bird

It has been really interesting with the children... they say they have difficulty drawing trees, kings, etc, so instead of saying try doing it yourself, i've started doing drawing lessons with them, and the results have been spectacular!!!

As many different trees as there are children!

We did yellow and gold and they were so beautiful!

Some children did it in plastercine! Next week we do lessons in plastercine!

Here is my K on the board... and then we did a lesson in doing K... and King

Truly spectacular Main Lesson books.

I can safely say that currently the favourite lesson of the day is learning to draw and putting the results into the Main Lesson books after practise drawing!

Form drawing and some basic reading...
Children seem to naturally write from the bottom to the top and so this FD lesson is about trying to get them to write from top to bottom. These are the seven arrows shot by the sons of the Rajah, landing straight into the ground. Next week, in addition to learning B, M and S they will also learn how to draw straight lines for the purposes of writing...
The board at the start of this week...
B for Bear, M for Mountain, and S for Stream. The illustration at the right is the North Wind with the girl who rescues the Prince in the fairy tale East of the Sun and West of the Moon. the fairy tale for this week is the Little Pet Rani, where the roles of Beauty and Beast are reversed... i suppose the feminist in me just can't help it. Everyone LOVED East of the Sun and West of the Moon... they paid attention to every word that was said!

And that is the Knight and the Lady and the Dragon

All the chalk boards change every day. The kids love seeing the drawings change. The dragon is no longer rearing in this one. And in the next one the knight is about to throw the spear.

F, C, W and lots of other things mixed in

Here are some photos from the last two weeks. They are mostly of the blackboard and other stuff i do when the kids aren't in class. In addition to this we do lots of music and German. And next week we will wash wool and dry it. But the week before we did some sewing, which i didn't take pictures of.

Anyway... i agree this is mostly my work on the kids... next week i'll make more of an effort to do their stuff.

So here is a picture of the castle
i made to illustrate the concept that the world is made
of straight lines and curves... a castle with the gnome and gnome king

Here is the goblin and the cast that teaches us music...

Break time, we eat as a class round a table.
After that i recite a poem and then we sing (again!) before
playtime!

The story of the fisherman and his wife... from the
pictures come the sound and then the letters...

Finger knitting to train fine motor skills

The clouds are becoming C and the fish is becoming F and the waves are becoming W

Set up for wet on wet painting

Beauty is soooo important

What the board looked like today

Free rendering
The children recall the story from the day before and they then do a picture using a medium of their choice. In this case paper and glue... the story is The Golden Bird.
This child chose colour pencils

The results of wet on wet study in Blue

This one i really like, its like a road leading from the sky
Next week's picture, from the Golden Bird
